Robin Thicke steered clear of controversy as he made his headlining debut at the iTunes Festival.

The Blurred Lines singer made no reference to his twerking incident with Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards, although he was joined by three scantily clad models on stage at the Roundhouse in Camden.

The 36-year-old, who is celebrating a decade in the industry since the release of his debut record A Beautiful World in 2003, told the screaming crowds: "Don't ever give up on your dreams. I'm living proof. I've been making music for 25 years and now I'm up here."

He added: "Thanks to you, I got my first number one song this year and I love you all."

Introduced as the "white man with soul" by his keyboard player, Robin - wearing his trademark three-piece suit - opened with new single Give It 2 U before performing Take It Easy On Me and Feel Good, all from his sixth album Blurred Lines.

He played some of his back catalogue, picking a variety of tracks from his previous albums The Evolution Of Robin Thicke and Something Else, and reminded fans of his soul credentials with covers of Michael Jackson's Rock With You and Al Green's Let's Stay Together.

Robin, who previously supported John Legend at the festival in 2007, prompted screams when his shirt was ripped open during his performance of his breakout song Lost Without You, but it was his closing number one hit Blurred Lines which was greeted with the loudest cheers.

After the gig, the singer tweeted: "What a show. Thanks to everyone who tuned in #itunesfestival."
