Gaga: I was bankrupt during tour

Lady Gaga has revealed her Monsters Ball tour left her bankrupt.

The Applause singer admitted she spent three million US dollars on the extravagant gigs, which left her broke, in the upcoming EPIX documentary Who The F*** Is Arthur Fogel?, reported Entertainment Tonight.

"I had three million dollars in the bank to my name and I threw it all in to make my stage. So I was bankrupt during the show," she said.

The 27-year-old, who played over 200 shows during the two-year-long world tour from 2009 to 2011, hoped that Arthur Fogel, the chairman of Live Nation's global touring division, would help turn her fortunes around.

She continued: "I remember I went home and I was with my dad and he said, 'I don't understand. Bad Romance is out. You are all over the radio. Everyone is talking about you and you don't have a pot to p*** in'. I said, 'Just let me do this'. Let me just put it on the stage... "

She added: "I remember he (Arthur) called me and he said, 'We want to do this.' And he got Live Nation to write me a 40 million US dollars cheque. And it changed my life and the life of my whole family."

Meanwhile Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, brushed away comparisons with fellow chart-topper Katy Perry.

"I don't know what the f***-all I have to do with Katy Perry. Our music is so completely different," she said at SXSW, reported Billboard.

"I couldn't be more different, really. I really don't fit in pop music in a way, but I came through it and I'd like to think I changed it in some way so you can feel like you don't have to fit into a mould."
