Adam Ant recruits ex-band members

Adam Ant has recruited two of the band members who famously abandoned him 35 years ago, before he found chart success.

Drummer Dave Barbarossa and bass player Leigh Gorman were originally members of Adam And The Ants but were lured to form Bow Wow Wow by manager Malcolm McLaren, leaving the frontman to recruit a new band and reinvent his sound.

Ant went on to have hits with tracks such as Ant Music, Kings Of The Wild Frontier and Prince Charming after teaming up with guitarist Marco Pirroni and other musicians for a later version of The Ants.

They have now buried the hatchet and rejoined the singer whom they left in 1979, to form Ant's new band The Ministers Of New Super Heavy Funk Punk. The line-up also includes drummer Jola plus guitarists Tom Edwards and Will Crewdson.

Barbarossa and Gorman performed on The Ants' debut album Dirk Wears White Sox and they will be playing the release in its entirety at a performance at London's Hammersmith Apollo on April 19, as well as songs from it at other gigs on a tour next month.

The returning pair last performed with Ant on December 31 1979, promoting the Dirk album, at the Electric Ballroom in London before they were poached for McLaren's Bow Wow Wow project, which went on to have hits with songs such as Go Wild In The Country and I Want Candy.

Matthew Ashman who also quit the Ants for the other band died in 1995.
