Sir Paul plays gig at highest venue

Having spent more than half-a-century performing to audiences around the globe, there were few stones left for Sir Paul McCartney to overturn.

But it was at an elevation of 2,800 metres above sea level (9,180ft) that the ve teran pop star ended his Ecuadorian absence.

Sir Paul played his first ever concert in the South American country last night at the Estadio De Liga in Quito. In doing so, the gig became the highest he had ever performed.

To mark his visit as a national event, local authorities teamed up with the Ecuadorian Beatles fan club to greet Sir Paul by creating a giant logo for his latest album on the Pichincha Mountain, an Ecuadorian landmark. The logo could be seen across the entire city.

Sir Paul performed for almost three hours and also gave a special rendition of All You Need Is Love on the piano.

The former Beatles star is currently on the South American leg of his Out There tour. Later this week he will perform in Costa Rica for the first time.
