Alicia Keys: 'I'm becoming a real Girl on Fire'

Singer Alicia Keys is becoming more powerful the older she gets.

The No One singer, who celebrated her 35th birthday on 25 January (16), is as career-driven as ever.

"I love what I do, I love music, it’s so powerful," she told Gayle King at Hearst's masterclass, according to WWD.com "What’s becoming more evident is that I’m becoming more powerful. I’m getting more clarity and more wisdom of what’s happening in the world and how to talk about it, how to access my feelings more."

Alicia's continued confidence has translated into her new music - something that will become more evident with the release of her upcoming sixth album.

"You should be out of your mind with excitement for this music,” she alerted fans. “You’re going to basically lose your mind.”

While Alicia hasn't released a record since 2012's Girl on Fire, the modern-day feminist icon has been as busy as ever with a guest role on hit TV drama Empire.

"That was really fun,” she said. "I love to act; it’s one of my greatest passions. I would love to do it more, but the time management of it all gets tricky. But I enjoyed it.”

The singer certainly has a lot to juggle as a co-founder of the charity Keep a Child Alive and a mother to sons Egypt and Genesis, and a stepmum to her husband Swizz Beatz's three children from a previous relationship.

"The only way to navigate that beautiful, wonderful responsibility, is a massive calendar and schedule,” she laughed. “You have to really put the time into anything you love.”
