Taylor Swift 'heartbroken' over Calvin Harris split

Taylor Swift is said to be "torn apart" over her split from Calvin Harris.

News of the break-up broke last week (end01Jun16), with the superstar DJ later confirming reports by posting a statement on Twitter.

"The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect," he wrote. Taylor later retweeted the post, but did not offer up any additional comments.

While the Shake It Off singer continues to remain tight-lipped about the split, a friend revealed the star is struggling to come to terms with the end of the romance.

"Taylor's completely torn apart over this," a source told Britain's Heat magazine. "She believed Calvin was 'The One.' This was it as far as she was concerned. She can't believe it's over."

The insider adds Taylor, 26, was convinced that 32-year-old Calvin was about to propose to her, especially after they enjoyed a loved-up getaway to mark their first anniversary as a couple back in March (16). It was further noted that the Bad Blood singer "knew Calvin wasn't happy" but she put his discontentment down to his busy performance schedule.

"For Taylor, it came totally out of the blue when Calvin told her it was over and it wasn't working,” the insider added. “She's so heartbroken. She understands how difficult it is being with someone so high profile, but she thought he had a handle on it. But apparently not."

The break-up is said to have occurred in the last week of May (16), just days after Calvin, real name Adam Wiles, was involved in a car accident in Beverly Hills, California, while en route to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas for a show. Calvin cancelled four appearances following the 20 May (16) crash to give him time to recuperate, but he was well enough to travel back to the U.K. later that week. According to an insider, the car accident was a significant factor in Calvin deciding to call it quits with Taylor.

"Calvin had been having doubts for months," a friend of the Scottish star said. "His car accident two weeks ago really bought things to a head... It was after that he told Taylor it was over."

Taylor and Calvin began dating last year (15) after being introduced by their mutual friend Ellie Goulding.
