Alanis Morissette says she is pansexual

Alanis Morissette has revealed that she is pansexual. The singer shared the news on the latest episode of the Handsome podcast, which is co-hosted by Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin.

Near the end of the conversation, Feimster told her, "I'm sorry for the men that hurt you, but I'm not sorry for the songs that came from it," and then asked whether she had ever wanted to be a lesbian. Morissette replied, "I'm pansexual, so, yeah."

Notaro pressed her on the answer, asking whether she really was pansexual, and Morissette confirmed it. Pansexuality refers to sexual, romantic or emotional attraction to people regardless of their gender identity or sex.

When the hosts joked that she should have opened the podcast with the news, Morissette said she preferred to save it for the epilogue.

The Canadian singer-songwriter has been married to Mario "Souleye" Treadway since 2010. The couple have three children: Ever, 15, Onyx, 10, and Winter, seven.

Morissette rose to fame in 1995 with the album Jagged Little Pill, which became one of the defining records of the decade. It was turned into a Broadway musical in 2019, and she won two Tony Awards for it. This year she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
