Kendrick Lamar to perform for Barack Obama’s 4th of July party at the White House

The acclaimed rapper will grace the White House lawn on Monday as the President of the United States hosts his annual barbeque.

After meeting with Obama earlier this year to discuss issues affecting inner city youths, Lamar has been invited back to put on a performance for the members of the military and their families.

Celebrating Independence Day in style, the award-winning musician will headline a special concert alongside Janelle Monae on the South Lawn.

Obama recently admitted that he was a big fan of Lamar, saying that his track How Much A Dollar Cost was his favourite song of 2015.

First Lady Michelle Obama is an avid supporter of Monae, who provided a track for her Let Girls Learn initiative.

The President recently proclaimed June 2016 as African-American Music Appreciation Month, saying that the music is a ‘vital party’ of American’s history.

In the proclamation, he said: “I, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2016 as African-American Music Appreciation Month.”

Lamar recently performed alongside Beyonce at the BET Awards in LA, putting in a surprise appearance during the opening number.

The rapper was in London this weekend to perform at British Summertime in Hyde Park and stopped by Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening to watch the Queen of Pop perform.
