Ed Sheeran makes surprise Latitude appearance

Ed Sheeran made a surprise appearance at Latitude Festival at the weekend.

The 'Thinking Out Loud' hitmaker is currently on a year-long break but couldn't resist turning up to sing on stage with his friend Foy Vance.

They performed on the BBC Radio 6 Music Stage, which showcases the best alternative and leftfield music at the festival in Suffolk, east England, on Sunday afternoon (17.07.16).

Fans described it as "the best surprise" although some who left the event early were annoyed they'd missed it.

Ed, 25, and Foy, 42, are good friends and performed together in 2013.

Speaking about their friendship, Foy - who is signed to Ed's label Gingerbread Man Records - said: "I still can't get my head around how he gets away with being this ginger-haired white English kid that raps, but it works - maybe as he's not trying to be England's Eminem. He's a wise fellow and he's been very supportive, which is a beautiful quality."

The pair are so close that they even have matching tattoos.

Foy explained: "We've duetted on 'Guiding Light' on some shows, but I also sang it at the funeral of [Derry community leader] John McDaid, as Ed and I are close to his son, [Snow Patrol musician] Johnny McDaid.

"It became a family anthem, with the lyrics written in Old Irish on the gravestone. Ed said we should each get this 'Guiding Light' tattoo, written in Gaelic. So one afternoon in Pittsburgh, we took the afternoon off and found a tattooist: I wrote out Ed's and he wrote out mine. That's when I realised, it's become a bit of a bromance."
