Bradley Walsh amazed as he recognises famous musician as contestant on The Chase

Bradley Walsh was surprised to learn that he actually recognised one of the contestants on the latest episode on The Chase.

The 60-year-old ITV star, who has been presenting the popular TV show since 2009, welcomed 52-year-old Paul Hanley to the podium before having a chat about the contestant's background.

The Manchester native then explained to Bradley in the repeat episode that before he became an IT technician, he was actually part of a well-known band from the area.

When quizzed about whether he had always worked in IT, Paul responded: "Well I was a drummer before I was an IT technician."

"What, on the road?" Bradley asked.

Paul replied: "Yeah, on the road, with a band called The Fall."

Bradley then expressed surprise after admitting that he knew the band, saying: "I remember The Fall, yes I do, good for you. What made you leave?"

Paul then explained: "I decided I was going to form my own band and become a multimillionaire rockstar hence why I've been in IT for the past 25 years."

It turns out that Paul was actually the drummer for the post-punk band from 1980 to 1985 before going onto pursue other projects.

Paul's brother Steve went on to continue playing with the popular Mancunian band for some years after.

The former drummer also explained during the show that he was currently studying for an English Literature degree at the Open University, before going on to take part in the quiz round.

While Paul was able to amass an impressive £7,000 for his team, sadly he was put up against Anne Hegerty who was able to beat the contestant and send him home.
