Charli XCX is not ready to let go of Brat album era

Charli XCX is not ready to move on from the phenomenal success of her album Brat.

The British pop star released her album Brat in June last year and it became a phenomenon, dominating the cultural zeitgeist so much that the phrase "Brat Summer" was born.

During her performance at Coachella earlier this month, Charli seemed to declare the Brat Summer was over. The giant screen behind her read, "Maybe it's time for a different kind of summer?" before listing other artists and filmmakers who could take over.

However, in a candid TikTok video on Sunday, the 360 hitmaker suggested that she was having second thoughts about bringing her most successful album era to an end.

"Yesterday I made this TikTok about, 'Summer again?' And I was kind of joking but also maybe serious," she began. "It got me thinking about it is really hard to let go of Brat, and let go of this thing that is so inherently me, and become my entire life."

She explained that musicians tend to "disappear" to work on a new album after becoming "oversaturated" - but she is tempted to break tradition and keep going with Brat.

"I started thinking about culture and the ebbs and flows of the lifespan of things and how when you get a level of success, you can become oversaturated and then people want you to disappear - which I understand, and I am sort of a believer in that," Charli continued. "I think it allows artists to retain their cool when they are so in everyone's faces, then they vanish. But I am also interested in the tension of staying too long. I find that quite fascinating in what that does."

She added, "But yeah, it's obviously hard to just be like, 'OK. It's over now.' I kind of want it to go on and on and on because it is who I am... I just kind of want it to keep going."

Charli can't move on from her Brat era just yet as she is still on tour in the U.S., after which she will perform at festivals over the summer.
