Katy Perry responds to 'unhinged and unhealed' critics following space flight backlash

Katy Perry has responded to "unhinged and unhealed" online critics following backlash over her recent flight to space.

Earlier this month, the popstar took part in the all-female Blue Origin space flight, along with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's fiancée Lauren Sánchez, TV personality Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn and scientists Aisha Bowe and Amanda Nguyen.

While the 11-minute flight has been widely panned due to the exorbitant cost, Katy posted a lengthy message on a fan account on Tuesday in which she insisted she wasn't allowing haters to get to her.

"Please know I am ok, I have done a lot (of) work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me," she wrote. "My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer, 'No one can make you believe something about yourself that you don't already believe about yourself' and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it's an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it."

Katy went on to note that when the "online world" attempts to make her a "human piñata" she wants to do the opposite and send them love.

"I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for (the) unhinged and unhealed," the Firework hitmaker continued.

Elsewhere, Katy thanked her dedicated fans for their ongoing support.

"I'm so grateful for you guys. We're in this beautiful and wild journey together. I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond. I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year," she added. "I'm on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but... I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS."

Katy is currently on The Lifetimes Tour, with her next concert due to take place in Houston, Texas on 7 May.
