NewsMay, 20 Jim Morrison bust recovered 37 years after gravesite theft![]() A marble bust in the likeness of Jim Morrison stolen from his gravesite nearly four decades ago has finally been recovered. On Monday, a spokesperson for French police announced that the statue had been found amid a search related to a fraud case. "After 37 years of absence, the bust of Jim Morrison, stolen in 1988 from the Père Lachaise Cemetery, has been found!" they wrote alongside a photo of the bust. "During an investigation conducted by the Financial and Anti-Corruption Brigade of the Directorate of Judicial Police of the Prefecture of Police, under the authority of the Paris Public Prosecutor's Office, this iconic symbol for the singer's fans was recovered." Police officials have not yet shared any further details, such as where they found the bust or if any arrests were made. It's not yet known if the iconic bust will be returned to its original location atop Morrison's grave at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. The Doors frontman died in a Paris apartment at the age of 27 in 1971. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of his passing, Croatian sculptor Mladen Mikulin was granted permission by cemetery staff to place a marble bust and gravestone on the site in 1981. Heavily vandalised by visitors, the bust was stolen in May 1988 - with many theories circulating over the years as to the whereabouts of the heavy sculpture.
