John Stamos: 'I worshipped the Beach Boys'

John Stamos has revealed he grew up "worshipping" the Beach Boys as he paid tribute to late frontman Brian Wilson.

The actor-and-musician took to social media to pay his respects to the legendary music star, who passed away aged 82 on Wednesday. Stamos recalled how the band's music played an integral part in his life as he shared his gratitude for his close friendship with Wilson.

"I grew up worshipping the Beach Boys, never imagining one day I'd get to play with them, let alone call Brian a friend," he wrote on Instagram on Wednesday as he posted a photo of the pair together.

"Brian Wilson didn't just soundtrack my life...he filled it with color, with wonder, with some of the most unforgettable, emotional, joyful moments I've ever known," his tribute began. "It's hard to put into words what it meant to stand beside him, laugh with him, play his music with him."

Hailing Wilson as a "musical genius", Stamos went on to describe the singer-songwriter as "gentle, soulful, funny, complex".

He also shared his love for the band's uplifting hits including God Only Knows and Wouldn't It Be Nice, as the 61-year-old star revealed how the songs had "shaped" him.

"His music made me feel things I didn't know how to say," Stamos continued. "It made me want to make people feel the way his music made me feel. So much of my life and career, so much of me, exists because of what Brian created."

Stamos finished his heartfelt tribute by paying his respects to the star's daughters Carnie and Wendy Wilson and expressed his wish for Wilson to "rest easy".
