On Thursday, McCartney took to social media to express his admiration for Wilson, who died on Wednesday aged 82. "I loved him, and was privileged to be around his bright shining light for a little while," McCartney wrote on Instagram, before referencing one of the Beach Boys' biggest hits. "How we will continue without Brian Wilson, 'God Only Knows'." To accompany the message, McCartney included a carousel of images featuring Wilson, including a shot taken by his late wife Linda McCartney. The two artists shared a close bond over the years, and McCartney was a vocal supporter of Wilson's songwriting skills. In McCartney's heartfelt tribute to his late friend, the 82-year-old icon once again praised Wilson's musical achievements. "Brian had that mysterious sense of musical genius that made his songs so achingly special," his message began. "The notes he heard in his head and passed to us were simple and brilliant at the same time." Signing off, the star acknowledged Wilson for all he had done during his life. "Thank you Brian. - Paul," he wrote.
