Ashanti has roasted Nelly over sleeping through their son's cries.

The singer teased her rapper husband for getting a good night's rest in a new episode of their reality TV series, Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together.

Discussing 50-year-old Nelly's plans for a global tour, the couple agreed his departure for months would leave wife Ashanti, 44, at home literally holding the baby - which she suggested wouldn't be very different from the status quo.

"It's just with the baby it's a lot," Ashanti explained. "I'm trying to understand how is it that you sleep through when he starts crying?"

Nelly agreed that he had heard about the concept of baby-related sleep deprivation, responding, "Do y'all really be up at night? I heard about it."

The couple's son, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, will turn one on 18 July, four months after Nelly's worldwide Where The Party At Tour kicked off in March.

Elsewhere in the episode, Nelly admitted he had little interest in spending time with their son until he could walk and talk - until then, the lion's share of the parenting would be borne by Ashanti.

"Cause once he get to walking and talking, he with the crew," he explained.

Nelly previously told The Shade Room he was on "cruise control" when it came to looking after baby Kareem but was happy to pay for nannies to give his singer wife a break.

"She knows I'm here," he said. "She knows she has the support. She knows whatever she needs, I provide, and that includes nannies."
