NewsJune, 30 Marilyn Manson's U.K. tour opener cancelled amid backlash![]() The opening concert of Marilyn Manson's U.K. tour has been cancelled amid backlash from politicians and the public. The rock musician, real name Brian Warner, had been set to play a One Assassination Under God Tour show with his band at the Brighton Centre in Brighton, England on 29 October. But over the weekend, fans received a message from Ticketmaster noting "this event has been cancelled". The gig has also been removed from Manson's official website. Representatives for the 56-year-old have not yet commented on the update. The next show in the U.K. leg of the tour will be held at the Bournemouth International Centre, Bournemouth on 31 October. Earlier this month, Green MP Siân Berry sent an open letter to Brighton & Hove City Council leader Bella Sankey requesting Manson's concert at the publicly owned venue be cancelled due to allegations of abuse levelled at the frontman. "Freedom of expression is an important principle that should be defended, including in relation to artists, but there is an obvious risk to community cohesion and the council has separate equalities obligations to foster good relations between people who share protected characteristics and people who do not share them," the formal note reads. "The Council has a responsibility to take action where there are risks of discrimination, harassment and victimisation." The letter was co-signed by the University of Sussex Students' Union and officials from local victim support organisations. In 2021, Manson's former partner, actress Evan Rachel Wood, accused the controversial artist of psychological and sexual abuse, with five other women filing lawsuits with similar allegations in civil lawsuits. In January, representatives for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced that there would be no charges filed against Manson following a four-year criminal investigation due to the expiration of the statute of limitations and lack of evidence. The Personal Jesus rocker has always denied the allegations against him.
