Pulp play homecoming London gig

Jarvis Cocker told the crowd at Wireless Festival in Hyde Park that they were witnessing a "homecoming" gig from Pulp.

The pouting, posing Brit pop star had thousands dancing and singing along as he strutted the staging performing the band's hits, in a dazzling show that saw the crowd covered with streamers and confetti.

Jarvis told the crowd: "Although Pulp are predominantly from Sheffield this is like a homecoming gig for us as most of the songs you will hear tonight were written as a result of moving to London."

The Different Class stars had everyone joining in from the start with Do You Remember The First Time, and played an energetic set including classics Disco 2000, Something's Changed, Mis-Shapes and Underwear.

Jarvis dedicated the song Babies to his mother and his son, who he said were both in the audience.

The 47-year-old musician impressed with his moves throughout the show, at one point lying on his back and cycling with his legs in the air.

Jarvis introduced the final song, Common People, saying it expressed the mixture of cultures he had first experienced when moving from Sheffield to London.

Kelly Osbourne and Pixie Geldof were among the celebrities in the crowd.

Earlier Swedish rockers The Hives played an equally lively set dressed in top hat and tails.

During their final song, Tick Tick Boom, frontman Howlin' Pelle Almqvist told the audience he was trying a "psychological experiment" by asking everyone to sit down on the floor, before ordering them all to stand up and dance.
