Groups await Bucks Fizz name ruling

One group calling themselves Bucks Fizz are set to lose their sparkle when trade mark officers make their mind up over a long-running dispute.

Thirty years after the original group's Eurovision triumph there are now two musical ensembles battling for the right to hold the name.

Cheryl Baker, Mike Nolan and Jay Aston have played to a packed house at the London Palladium under the name the Original Bucks Fizz.

The fourth member of the original line-up, Bobby G, recruited three new members, including his wife, Heidi Manton, who now owns the copyright of the name Bucks Fizz.

A notice on their website says: "Bucks Fizz are solely owned and managed by Heidi Manton.

"The current members of the group, as featured on this site, are the only group authorised to perform under the Registered Trade Mark of Bucks Fizz.

"Any other group(s) performing under the name Bucks Fizz are in infringement of the Registered Trade Mark and are not representing Bucks Fizz."

The court ruling over who is allowed the use the Bucks Fizz name comes days after Cheryl was defeated by Joe McElderry in the final of ITV's Popstar To Operastar.

The judgment is due to be given at the Trade Mark Registry in central London.
