R Kelly has emergency tonsil op

R Kelly is in hospital after emergency throat surgery, his spokesman has revealed.

The singer's publicist said that doctors drained an abscess on one of Kelly's tonsils on Tuesday, and that he will be "laid up indefinitely" at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The spokesman said the I Believe I Can Fly star had been complaining of throat pain recently and was rushed to the hospital after a throat exam.
