Thicke: Label hated Blurred Lines

Robin Thicke has revealed his record label hated his single Blurred Lines when they first heard it.

The Canadian singer has had a global hit with the track he co-wrote with Pharrell Williams, which also features TI. But he revealed his record bosses didn't want him to release it as a single and didn't fund the controversial video featuring topless models.

Robin said: "The record company didn't get it. They didn't even pay for the video. They didn't want to support it at all. Remy Martin paid for the video."

The 36-year-old crooner is a spokesperson for the drinks brand with his wife, actress Paula Patton.

He added: "And as soon as the record company saw the video, they said, 'this is a smash'."

Robin insisted he always knew he had a hit on his hands.

But he revealed: "I went into the record label and I played it for the heads of the label, head of pop radio and everybody just went, 'Nice. Nice.' Got no response; was kind of surprised by that. A few months later went back in, played it again like, 'I think we have enough records here. I think we've got four or five really strong singles - or at least four or five options for singles'."

Some critics have said the lyrics and video are sexist.

Robin said: "For all the controversy and all this other stuff that people try to make it seem like that's more important, what's really important about music and entertainment is to entertain and make people feel good."
