Rudimental stand by Emeli Sande

Rudimental have revealed they were warned not to work with Emeli Sande because she is too "over-exposed".

The Hackney drum and bass group have collaborated with the award-winning Scottish singer for tracks Free and More Than Anything on their debut album Home. The lads defended Emeli in an interview with the Daily Star, insisting the emotion she put into the songs just felt right.

DJ Locksmith - real name Leon Rolle, 26 - said: "People were telling us that maybe we shouldn't work with her as she was over-exposed, but the songs are amazing.

"Generally it's only the media who have created this Emeli backlash. The general public love her. You get that kind of reaction when you are successful.

"It's the same as any artist on our record, we didn't think about who they are or what they represent, it was about the emotion.

"Bottom line is her voice and the music that comes out."

Bandmate Piers Agget, 25, added: "We never get bored of talking about Emeli and the songs we made with her because they are such special tracks.

"We had two instrumental ideas which hadn't taken form, then we met her at our Brixton gig supporting Maverick Sabre.

"She actually came to see us. We played her the tracks and it happened really quickly.

"She brings out a special emotion in our songs. That's all we want to do when we create music, not just please the mosh-pit but create real emotion."
