Cowell: Miley Cyrus is very smart

Miley Cyrus' headline-grabbing tactics have got the thumbs up from Simon Cowell.

The former Hannah Montana star has sparked controversy with her recent antics, including her racy performance at the MTV Video Music Awards and appearing naked in the video for her new song.

But Simon told E! during an interview with his fellow X Factor USA judges that Miley is definitely "smart" because she has managed to get everyone talking about her.

His fellow judge Kelly Rowland added: " I was just about to say - you're talking about it and everyone else in the world is talking about it."

Simon went on: "Every interview I do right now: [They ask about] Miley Cyrus. They weren't doing that with Hannah Montana, trust me."

Kelly said: "I think she is very smart and she's doing everything the way she wants to do it and that's the only way you can do it."

But the former Destiny's Child star - who is on the X Factor USA panel alongside Simon, Demi Lovato and Paulina Rubio - did admit she hoped Miley would bin the skimpy nude outfit she wore at the VMAs.

"I just don't want her to wear those pants no more that she wore at the MTV VMAs, she's too cute for those pants," the singer said.
