Palladium date for Robbie Williams

Robbie Williams is to launch his new collection of swing songs with a performance at the London Palladium, a venue famously played by Rat Pack stars such as Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.

The 39-year-old singer will play the famous theatre next month ahead of the release of his new album Swings Both Ways.

His concert is to be released on a DVD, to be called Robbie Williams: One Night At The Palladium, by BBC Worldwide which has acquired the concert's global film rights.

The show echoes the release of his previous big band collection Swing When You're Winning, which he showcased with a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in October 2001.

Williams, who is due to release his new album on November 18, will appear with "special guests" as they perform tracks which include classics and new songs which he has written with Guy Chambers.

There will also be tracks from his previous swing release, which was his biggest seller, shifting more than seven million copies around the world.

Among the names who feature on his album are Lily Allen, Michael Buble, Kelly Clarkson, Olly Murs and Rufus Wainwright, while the classic songs include Puttin' On The Ritz and Dream A Little Dream.

Salim Mukaddam, director of music for BBC Worldwide, said: " Robbie is one of the most versatile performers of our times - a truly outstanding pop star, who was born to sing swing songs.

"This promises to be a fantastic performance and a must-see event for Robbie's millions of fans around the world, as well as for anyone that enjoys great swing and big band performances."

The DVD will come out on December 9.
