Dogg turns Snoopzilla for album

Snoop Dogg has changed his name once again - to become Snoopzilla.

The Californian rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr, has picked the moniker for a new collaborative self-titled funk project with Dam-Funk, titled 7 Days Of Funk, reported Consequence Of Sound.

The 41-year-old is reportedly paying a tribute to funk bassist Bootsy Collins, who referred to himself as Bootzilla.

"We're the babies of the Mothership," Snoop said in a press release.

"I've had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He's keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him."

He added: "We thought it would be great if we did something together. So what we did was we made it happen. It's a matter of respecting each other's crafts. He opened his door for me to do my thing... It was too big to be a song, it had to be a movement - a movement on 7 Days Of Funk."

The debut album from the pair is expected to be released in the US on December 10.

Snoop swapped his canine affiliations for a more feline affections, when he changed his name to Snoop Lion in 2012. The move came after he converted to Rastafarianism and reinvented himself as a reggae artist for his reggae-influenced album Reincarnated.

The hip-hop star is now working on his last solo studio album under his rap moniker Snoop Dogg.
