Swift opens Nashville music school

Taylor Swift is taking her legacy to new heights, after opening a music school in Nashville.

The 23-year-old pop star opened the $4 million US dollars (£2.5 million) Taylor Swift Education Centre at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on October 12.

It came a day before she broke her Nashville Songwriters Association record with a sixth win, becoming the only person to be named the international songwriter/artist of the year six times. She surpassed five-time winners Vince Gill and Alan Jackson.

The award recognises Nashville acts who have achieved Top 30 singles, and Taylor has enjoyed chart success in the past 12 months with I Knew You Were Trouble, Red and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.

Taylor showed reporters and students around the centre, which includes classrooms, instrument rooms and will provide education opportunities for children.

"I'm really excited about this music education centre and the fact that right now they have three different classes going on today. It's really exciting that we can be here on a day when they're not only unveiling it, but they're starting to actively use it today," she said after the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

She hinted that she may even return to pass on her own tips for aspiring musicians.

"We've been talking about different programs I can be involved in," the singer said.

"I hate to call it a lecture because that sounds like I'm yelling at people, but we could do a Q&A talking to students here and a songwriters discussion would be really fun to have at some point."
