Aled Jones impressed by choirboy

Aled Jones has given his seal of approval to a young choirboy who is following in his footsteps after watching the youngster perform at the Royal Albert Hall.

The Daybreak presenter met 11-year-old Jack Topping following the schoolboy's performance of You'll Never Walk Alone at the famous venue during the Classic Brit Awards.

Young Jack, who lives in Astley, near Liverpool, landed the chance to perform after his planned debut last week was cancelled just 15 minutes before he was due on stage due to a fire alert, much to his disappointment.

But organisers of the event stepped in to allow him to sing last night, joining a bill which included pianist Lang Lang, violinist Nicola Benedetti and composer Ludovico Einaudi.

Jack said afterwards he had enjoyed the performance: "It was amazing. Normally I look up and see all these faces and I get nervous, but I was fine."

Aled said he had been impressed by Jack, who has a deal with record label Decca and is the youngest act ever signed to the company.

The father-of-two said it brought back memories for him because he too made his Albert Hall debut at the age of 11.

He congratulated the youngster but told him: "I never give advice."

He jokingly added: "Never speak to journalists."

Winners at the ceremony included Hans Zimmer - known for his soundtracks to movies such as Inception and The Dark Knight Rises - who was named composer of the year and was presented with a a prize for his oustanding contribution to music by Sir Michael Caine.

Nicola was named female artist of the year, and Daniel Barenboim took the best male award.
