One Direction ahead in chart battle

One Direction appear to have won the battle of the boy bands after streaking ahead of rivals The Wanted in their head-to-head chart battle.

Both groups released singles this week, with The Wanted showcasing their track Show Me Love (America) on The X Factor results show on Sunday.

But despite being seen by millions on the programme, they are thousands of sales behind One Direction, who could claim this week's number one with Story Of My Life.

Early sales figures for Monday from the Official Charts Company show 1D sold 11,000 more copies of their release. However, they are not assured of their fourth number one yet, as they have competition from Fatboy Slim and are only 3,000 sales ahead of his track Eat Sleep Rave Repeat.

One Direction only achieved a number two position for their previous single Best Song Ever, which was the first release from forthcoming third album Midnight Memories.

Updated midweek figures are due to be released later today (Wednesday).
