One Direction tipped for success

One Direction are on course for chart success, after their new album sold more than 100,000 copies within a day of its release.

Midnight Memories, the third album from the X Factor boyband - Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson - has already sold around 115,000 copies since it was released on November 25, according to early midweek figures, reported The Sun.

The group has sold more than double Gary Barlow's latest solo record, Since I Saw You Last, which has shifted around 44,000 copies.

One Direction, who won two awards at the American Music Awards, also dominate the singles charts with seven songs from their new album in the Top 40. Three of them - Story Of My Life, Don't Forget Where You Belong and You And I - are in the Top 10.

They are also on course for success in the States, with US industry sources predicting that the fivesome will top the American charts by selling 500,000 copies of the record by December 1, reported Billboard.

It would be One Direction's third number one album in the US, following their first two chart-topping albums, Up All Night and Take Me Home. If they do debut in the top spot in the US, they will become the first group since the Monkees in 1967 to reach number one with their first three albums.

It comes as the boyband announced the North American dates for their Where We Are tour from August 2014.

"We simply can't wait to be back in North America touring and to see our fans. It's going to be absolutely huge!" said Niall.
