Corden to host Brits for final time

James Corden has been confirmed as host of the 2014 Brit Awards, but it will be his last stint as presenter.

The comic actor will return for the fifth time when he fronts the show on February 19, making him the longest serving presenter of the annual event.

This year's show at the O2 Arena in London will feature appearances by acts such as Arctic Monkeys and Katy Perry.

James - recently seen portraying singer Paul Potts in the movie One Chance, and in BBC series The Wrong Mans - has presented the event on three previous occasions on his own, and in 2009 he hosted the music bash with Mathew Horne and Kylie Minogue.

He said: "I really love the Brits. I'm such a fan. I'll miss not doing it after this one but fully intend to enjoy every second of Brits 2014."

Arctic Monkeys were nominated for the Mercury Prize for a third time for their fifth album AM and were among the headliners of Glastonbury Festival in the summer.

Katy, who won a Brit in 2009 for best international female and has been shortlisted for three others, said: "The Brits has always showcased the music that I love and am influenced by. It's an honour to play at such a prestigious event where musicality shines at its brightest."

It has also been revealed that headwear guru Philip Treacy has been named as the designer of this year's Brit Awards trophies - and says he will give them a "punk" look.

The hat designer, whose creations have crowned stars such as Madonna, Boy George, Grace Jones and Jamiroquai's Jay Kay, follows the likes of Sir Peter Blake and Damien Hirst in styling the prize. Organisers choose a different figure from the design world each year to stamp their mark on the blank trophy depicting a Britannia figure. Philip is the second fashion name to be involved after Dame Vivienne Westwood.

The event - officially called the Brit Awards with Mastercard - will be screened by ITV after the broadcaster renewed its deal for another three years.

Brits chairman Christian Tattersfield said: "We are extremely ambitious for the 2014 show, showcasing global superstars and celebrating the incredible success of British music. We are going to pull out all the stops to make this the biggest and most exciting Brits ever."
