Pet Shop Boys' gay rights song

The Pet Shop Boys have taken a gay rights speech as inspiration for a new song.

The duo have used drag queen Panti Bliss' Noble Call speech condemning homophobia in Ireland set to a backing track of trance music, according to NME.

Panti, real name Rory O'Neill, is a well-known gay rights activist in Ireland, whose speech at Dublin's Abbey Theatre in February went viral on YouTube and drew messages of support from celebrities including Madonna, Stephen Fry and Graham Norton.

Pet Shop Boys singer Neil Tennant posted a link to new song Oppressive (The Best Gay Possible) on the band's website captioned, "Check this out" over the weekend.

Rory also flagged up his starring role, which includes the full 10 minutes of his speech, tweeting: "So, eh, PET SHOP BOYS @petshopboys made an amazing track out of my Noble Call speech. Seriously. They did."

Pet Shop Boys are due to begin a 10-date tour of the US on April 8, which will include two appearances at Coachella festival.
