Kanye, Jay Z steal the show at SXSW

Jay Z and Kanye West have teamed up for a two-hour show together at SXSW.

The stars got together for the US music festival in Austin as part of a Samsung sponsored event, put on close by to a rival iTunes Festival show after Kanye had stern words for the Apple brand over their non-payment of performers.

Samsung scheduled the Austin Music Hall show at the same time as the iTunes Festival's hip-hop night that featured Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q at the nearby ACL Moody Theatre.

It came a few weeks after West called out Apple CEO Tim Cook at a New Jersey concert, telling him to "stop trying to get performers to play your festival for free, you are rich as f***."

Hordes of fans lined up around the block before the show and those with Samsung devices with the company's new streaming music service, Milk Music, were granted free entry.

Kanye and Jay Z emerged for the show on top of two large boxes on the stage and in the crowd, Kanye wearing his trademark leather kilt and Jay Z in a black American flag t-shirt.

They played tracks from their collaborative album Watch The Throne including No Church In The Wild and Otis.

Both rappers also performed their own hits - Black Skinhead, New Slaves, Jesus Walks and Runaway for Kanye, and Tom Ford, 99 Problems, Empire State Of Mind, Dirt Off Your Shoulder and Big Pimpin' for Jay Z.

The pair recently announced a partnership between Kanye's Donda Music and Jay Z's Roc Nation, and a sequel to Watch The Throne is expected later this year.
