Metallica linked to Glastonbury

Metallica are set to headline the Saturday night slot at Glastonbury, according to reports.

The Sun said that the metal rockers will be confirmed for the annual festival, following months of speculation, becoming the first thrash metal act to headline in its history.

Prince, who has been performing in the UK, had previously been tipped to get the top slot.

Arcade Fire and Kasabian have already been confirmed for the Friday and Sunday slots at the festival respectively.

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has previously spoken about the band's desire to perform there.

Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis recently teased about this year's secret third headlining act, but denied it would be Oasis.

The festival founder revealed that it will be "one of the biggest-selling bands in the world at the moment", and confirmed that it will be the group's debut at Worthy Farm, Somerset.
