Kelly Clarkson dumps RCA for Atlantic after teasing fans about major news

Kelly Clarkson has dumped the record deal she signed with Sony Music's RCA Records after winning the first season of American Idol.

The Since U Been Gone singer has been teasing fans about a big announcement all week by posting videos of herself performing songs by the likes of Otis Redding and Foreigner online, telling devotees to pay attention to the acts she was covering, as they were clues to Friday's (24Jun16) big reveal. The artists were all part of Atlantic Records - her new label.

The singer revealed she has already started on her first album for the Warner Music Group label - a record inspired by her love of soul music and R&B.

"We have already started creating a record that I have been wanting to make since I was a little girl, and a record that fans have been asking me to make for years," she said in a statement. "Here's to the future!"

The new mum's decision to switch companies won't come as a huge shock to fans after she called her RCA signing an "arranged marriage" following a falling out with former chairman and CEO Clive Davis in 2007.

She said, "After winning American Idol there was an arranged marriage that occurred that sometimes worked out and sometimes resulted in the hardest experiences of my life."

To celebrate the new deal, Clarkson has posted four fan-requested covers on her website: Coldplay's Fix You, Radiohead’s Creep, Etta James’ I’d Rather Go Blind, and India Arie’s Ready For Love.

As an RCA artist Clarkson released seven studio albums and picked up three Grammy Awards.
