NewsJanuary, 30 Dave Matthews drops out of benefit concerts due to 'illness in the family'Dave Matthews will no longer perform at two upcoming benefit concerts. The musician had been scheduled to appear alongside John Mayer at the Kia Forum for the FireAid fundraising event in Inglewood, California on Thursday night and at the MusiCares' 2025 Persons of the Year gala honouring the Grateful Dead on Friday. However, a representative for Matthews announced via Instagram on Wednesday night that he has been forced to drop out of the shows as a result of a family emergency. "Due to a critical illness in the family, Dave Matthews is unfortunately unable to perform at the FireAid and MusiCares benefits this week," the note reads. A spokesperson declined to comment further. The line-up for FireAid includes Alanis Morissette, Anderson .Paak, Dawes, Graham Nash, Green Day, John Fogerty, Joni Mitchell, No Doubt, P!nk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stephen Stills, Stevie Nicks, and the Black Crowes. Another FireAid concert featuring the likes of Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga will take place at the Intuit Dome at the same time. Proceeds will go towards rebuilding communities that have been devastated by the California wildfires. Meanwhile, original Grateful Dead band members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, and Bobby Weir will be feted at the MusiCares' 2025 Persons of the Year event. Funds raised will support the organisation's programmes and relief efforts, including to help provide assistance to musicians impacted by the wildfires. The Dave Matthews Band is next set to play at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in April.
