NewsFebruary, 8 Elton John left 'miserable' by health battle![]() Elton John has admitted he has been left "miserable" after partially losing his eyesight. The 77-year-old music legend lost sight in one eye and has suffered reduced vision in the other after contracting an eye infection last summer. He has explained that the loss of his vision has dragged down his confidence - but hopes to recover. Speaking to The Guardian, he said, "I'm an optimist permanently, I've got bad eyesight at the moment. "There have been days I've been miserable, but then I think about how lucky I am, I've got a new respect for sight-impaired people, but I've got a great life and hopefully my sight will improve." Acknowledging that he has been through tough challenges in the past, the Tiny Dancer singer added, "I've beaten addiction, health issues and can pick myself up, dust myself off." In April, John will unleash a new album titled Who Believes in Angels? - a collaboration with American musician Brandi Carlile, 43, with whom he wrote the Oscar-nominated song Never Too Late. Discussing the collaboration and album writing process on BBC Radio 2, John said, "I was in a very very dark place of doubt, I was tired, I wasn't feeling well and after I got through that weak period of feeling like that, it just flew and it was just amazing." He confessed, "I had more doubt on this record than I had ever had in my life. I just wanted it to be special. And you can't guarantee when you walk into a studio that you're gonna come out with something special. "But if I'd have been on my own without Brandi and (long-time co-writer) Berni (Taupin) and (producer) Andrew (Watt), this record would never have got made. It was the combination of all the energy in the room, all the aggravation, all the anxiety, pushed us to make electric music."
