A$AP Rocky declines to testify in own defence

A$AP Rocky has told the judge in his assault case that he is waiving his right to testify.

After speaking with his lawyer, the rapper decided not to take the stand in his own defence.

Rocky was not legally required to do so, and the potential for a damaging cross-examination may have proven too risky for the defence team.

He confirmed the decision to a judge in the final phase of his felony firearm assault trial in Los Angeles.

"You have a right to get on the stand and give your side of the case," the judge told him, going on to say that, "It's totally your decision to either get on the stand or waive your right to testify and not testify."

When asked if he knew what was at stake if he opted not to take the stand, Rocky replied, "I do, in fact."

His decision not to testify comes after the surprising testimony from his tour manager Lou Levin, who claimed that the rapper carried around a prop gun after a stalker gained access to his home.

Rocky has pleaded not guilty to two felonies related to an incident in which he allegedly pulled a gun and fired toward former childhood friend Terell Ephron, AKA A$AP Relli.

If convicted, he faces up to 24 years behind bars.
