NewsApril, 1 Roger Daltrey shares vision and hearing issues![]() Roger Daltrey has revealed he is losing his ability to see and hear. The 81-year-old music icon is best known as the lead singer of the rock band The Who - whose hits include My Generation, Pinball Wizard and Behind Blue Eyes. The rock legend has shared that he is succumbing to old age and is beginning to lose the power of sight - and hinted he has also lost his hearing. The singer told fans attending a Teenage Cancer Trust event, per Sky News, "The joys of getting old mean you go deaf. I also now have got the joy of going blind. Fortunately, I still have my voice, because then I'll have a full Tommy." His quip is a reference to the title character of The Who's iconic 1969 album, Tommy, which served as a rock opera, chronicling the life of the fictional Tommy Walker who went deaf, dumb and blind while of a path to becoming a messianic figure. Opening up to fans at the charity event in London, Daltrey - who performed alongside The Who co-star Pete Townshend - also revealed he had recently undergone surgery. He told fans attending the event at the Royal Albert Hall, "Four and a half weeks ago, I had my left knee replaced." The Who have been churning out music since the release of their debut single, Zoot Suit, in 1964 - and have unleashed an impressive 12 studio albums, with the most recent being 2019's Who.
