Miley Cyrus has denied gold dress she wears in the music video for Flowers was a dig at Jennifer Lawrence.

In the video for her hit 2023 song Flowers, the popstar wears a vintage gold lamé Saint Laurent gown with cutouts on the bodice and an oversized hood.

After the clip was released, some fans questioned whether the dress was a reference to the gold lamé gown designed by Prabal Gurung that Lawrence sported to the 2012 premiere of The Hunger Games, during which she posed next to co-star - and Cyrus's then-partner - Liam Hemsworth.

But in a clip circulating on social media this week, the Wrecking Ball hitmaker finally addressed the speculation.

While signing autographs outside the Jimmy Kimmel Live! studio following her appearance on the talk show earlier this month, a fan asked Cyrus, "Was your Flowers dress a reference to Jennifer Lawrence?"

In response, the 32-year-old declared: "No, but I love that dress of hers."

The singer didn't add any further comment.

Previously, Lawrence tackled gossip over the dress during a round of Plead the Fifth on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2023.

"There was already a lot of talk that the music video was referencing a secret fling that you had with Liam Hemsworth while he was with Miley Cyrus," Cohen asked. "Can you please respond to this?"

"I would love to: Not true, total rumour. I mean, we all know me and Liam, like, kissed one time. It was years after they'd broke up," the actress explained, referring to the kiss scene in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1. "So I just assumed that was, like, a coincidence."

Cyrus and Hemsworth started dating in 2009 and got engaged in 2012 but hit a pause on wedding plans the following year.

They reunited in 2016 and tied the knot in December 2018, but split in August 2019. The divorce was finalised in early 2020.

Cyrus is now dating musician Maxx Morando, while Hemsworth is in a relationship with model Gabriella Brooks.
