NewsMay, 29 Bono got hooked on reality TV after 2016 health scare![]() Bono has recalled how he started binge-watching reality television while recovering from a health scare nearly a decade ago. The U2 frontman underwent open-heart surgery in 2016 to fix a "blister" that had formed in his aorta as a result of having an irregularly shaped valve. Following the eight-hour operation, Bono made a full recovery. But in a cover interview for Esquire published on Wednesday, the Irish superstar recounted how his family forced him to start doing "regular" activities, such as watching TV, as he convalesced. "I said, 'Come on, you cannot be serious. I've got to watch Chef's Table?'" he remembered telling them. Yet, Bono quickly became absorbed with the Netflix documentary series which explores the personal and professional lives of some of the world's most acclaimed chefs. The Beautiful Day singer was particularly enamoured with the episodes focused on Evan Funke and Francis Mallmann. "I'm like, 'Wow.' And I had just met him on tour," the 65-year-old exclaimed of the Argentine celebrity chef. Bono also explained how his eldest daughter Jordan Hewson introduced him to Phoebe Waller-Bridge's 2016 comedy-drama series Fleabag, while his actress daughter Eve Hewson showed him episodes of The Kardashians. Elsewhere in the conversation, Bono hinted he may be working on new projects with U2 bandmate The Edge having found a renewed energy for making music. "I had better find some really great songs for it," he added. "That's on me and my mate. And guess what? There's nothing else that he or I want to do that comes close to it."
