Katy Perry vows to keep composure during split song

Katy Perry vowed to "hold" her composure as she performed a song about heartbreak on Tuesday evening.

The singer, who recently split from Orlando Bloom, was on stage in California with her Lifetimes Tour when she admitted she was feeling emotional.

During a segment where fans vote for the tracks Katy will perform live, she introduced Not Like the Movies, a song about the end of a relationship.

"This next song I wrote in my 20s... after my first divorce," Katy explained, referring to her failed marriage to British comedian Russell Brand.

She continued, "I'll try and hold my composure while I sing it a week before my period."

Katy has faced fresh heartbreak recently, after splitting from British actor Orlando. The pair had dated since 2016 and share four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove.

When the results showed concertgoers had voted for Not Like the Movies, Katy asked the crowd: "You're gonna make me sing this song in this time in my life? OK, we'll do it! Because you voted for it."

Fans also selected The One That Got Away during the segment.

The 40-year-old star insisted she had no regrets about allowing fans to choose what she should sing.

"I let you choose the song tonight because I like to pick an album for every country that I go to and for the U.S.A., I picked Teenage Dream because USA, you could be a teenage dream baby. You better get it together. I'll always have that feeling for you," she shared.

The Lifetimes Tour, which supports her seventh studio album, kicked off in Mexico City in April and is due to finish in Abu Dhabi in December.
