Cardi B replacing The Weeknd at Global Citizen Festival

Cardi B has joined the line-up for the 2025 Global Citizen Festival.

On Monday, The Weeknd revealed he would no longer be appearing at the event next weekend.

"I regret to share that, due to personal reasons, I am unable to perform at Global Citizen. Thank you to my fans for taking action with them, as I believe in their mission deeply. Thank you for your understanding and support," he commented.

The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, didn't share any further details.

But a short time later, Cardi confirmed she had agreed to step into the Starboy singer's spot on 27 September.

"Central Park, I'm coming for you!!! I can't wait to be home in New York, and to bring my new songs and all the DRAMA to the Global Citizen Festival," she enthused. "This one's not like other music festivals - this one is about coming together to help children around the world, and I'm so proud to support such an important cause. New York City - see you Saturday. Let's get it!!!"

Cardi, who is pregnant with her fourth child, unveiled her second album, Am I The Drama?, last week.

And Global Citizen co-founder Hugh Evans expressed his delight at the news.

"We are incredibly grateful to Cardi B, who has joined the Global Citizen Festival line-up. She's an outstanding performer, who will light up Central Park in spectacular fashion," he gushed. "We wish The Weeknd support and want to thank him and his fans for all taking action with us to help end extreme poverty."

Shakira, Tyla, Ayra Starr, Mariah the Scientist, and Camilo are also scheduled to appear.

Hosted by Hugh Jackman, the spectacle will be held on the Great Lawn in Central Park, New York City.

Tickets to the Global Citizen Festival are awarded through points earned by taking actions to fight extreme poverty.
