Beyoncé Donates $1M to Colombia Earthquake Relief

Beyoncé has pledged $1 million (around £730,000) to support relief efforts following the devastating earthquake in Colombia.

The quake struck the Chocó Department on 10 August, killing at least 331 people and injuring thousands more. It was felt across much of western and central Colombia, causing widespread damage.

On Wednesday, the singer announced she would make a “personal donation” to organisations working on the ground, primarily those providing food and housing supplies.

A spokesperson for Beyoncé said: “The earthquake caused severe loss of life and critical injuries. Many homes were completely demolished leaving residents without shelter. The epicenter of the earthquake was approximately three miles east of San Jose del Palmar, approximately 150 miles from Bogota. The earthquake was felt in cities across the country. Multiple cities have sustained damage to buildings, infrastructure, and roads, critically affecting the food supply.”

The representative also encouraged fans to visit the websites of Food For The Poor and World Central Kitchen if they wanted to contribute to ongoing relief efforts.

Earlier this month, Shakira pledged $1.25 million (about £924,000) to build new schools in the affected region of her home country.

“Beloved Colombia, my heart is with everyone who felt this earthquake today and with the families who are going through moments of anguish. In times like these, we Colombians know how to come together and support one another,” the Hips Don't Lie star wrote on social media at the time.
