Zara Larsson declines Best New Artist Grammy bid

Zara Larsson has confirmed she will not be seeking a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist at the 2027 ceremony. The Swedish singer-songwriter, who has released five albums over her career, feels the category doesn't fit her, even though her latest record Midnight Sun marked her U.S. breakthrough.

In an interview with Perfect Magazine, Zara said her former label – which she left earlier this summer before signing with a new one – had discussed putting her forward for the award. She recalled telling them, "I don't even want that. That would downplay the 13 years of me being an artist. I'm not a new artist."

Instead, she prefers the term "breakthrough" artist. "It feels like the whole world is looking at me at the same time," she explained. "Before, this song was successful over here, and another song a year later was successful over there. Now it feels like it's all coming together quite nicely."

While Zara has enjoyed success throughout her career, Midnight Sun has elevated her to a new level. However, the 28-year-old wouldn't have been eligible for Best New Artist anyway, as she already received a Grammy nomination in November 2025 for the title track, which was up for Best Dance Pop Recording. Lady Gaga ultimately won that category with Abracadabra.
