Rumer scores nominations hat-trick

Rumer has picked up a hat-trick of nominations at this year's Mojo Honours awards.

The singer-songwriter, who played the Glastonbury Festival last week, was nominated for breakthrough act, best album and song of the year at the annual bash hosted by the music magazine.

American singer John Grant also has the chance of taking home three awards with nods for best live act as well as best album and best song.

Sheffield rockers Arctic Monkeys pick up their seventh nomination in four years with their single Don't Sit Down Because I've Moved Your Chair shortlisted for song of the year.

It faces competition from Rumer's Slow, Grant's I Wanna Go To Marz, Heathen Child by Grinderman and Aloe Blacc's I Need A Dollar.

Mojo magazine's editor-in-chief Phil Alexander said: "John Grant and Rumer are exemplary songwriters, Aloe Blacc is responsible for a modern day soul classic, Grinderman are uproarious and glorious, while the Arctics have a knack of writing a song packed with kitchen sink observations and insidious hooks. I guess that explains why each of these tunes has made this shortlist."

Other nominees include critic's favourites Arcade Fire who are nominated for best album and best live act and Texan Josh T Pearson who is shortlisted for breakthrough act and best album.

The ceremony, in London on July 21, will also see a series of other awards given out including classic album, songwriter and lifetime achievement.

Phil added: "To see Rumer and John Grant with three nominations each proves that the art of real songwriting is alive and well.

"Double nominations for Arcade Fire, the Arctic Monkeys and Josh T Pearson are also something to behold."
