Happy Amy 'was looking forward'

Amy Winehouse was the happiest she had been in a long time in the run up to her death, the singer's father has said.

Prayers continue to be said for the 27-year-old after her funeral where grief-stricken Mitch Winehouse said his daughter had "conquered" her drug addiction and was "trying hard to deal with her drinking".

In a heartfelt eulogy read at Tuesday's ceremony, Mr Winehouse said his daughter had recently "completed three weeks of abstinence" adding that she told him: "Dad I've had enough of drinking, I can't stand the look on your and the family's faces any more."

At the funeral service at Edgwarebury Cemetery in north London, Mr Winehouse said: "Amy was the greatest daughter, family member and friend you could ever have.

"Recently Amy found love with Reg. He helped her with her problems and Amy was looking forward to their future together. She was the happiest she has been for years. But knowing she wasn't depressed, knowing she passed away happy, it makes us all feel better."

He also revealed plans to set up a foundation in his daughter's name to help people struggling with addiction.

His eulogy ended with the words: "Goodnight, my angel, sleep tight. Mummy and Daddy love you ever so much."

The Grammy-award winning singer was found dead at her home in Camden, north London, on Saturday.

Among the guests at the service were her boyfriend Reg Traviss, stylist Alex Foden, who has been credited with creating Amy's trademark beehive hairdo, producer Mark Ronson and singer Kelly Osbourne.

Following the service, Amy's body was taken to Golders Green Crematorium. A spokesman for the family said he understood Amy's ashes would be placed next to those of her grandmother Cynthia.
