'Time to move on' from festival

Long-standing music festival All Tomorrow's Parties is to end its popular seaside events featuring an array of indie acts and curated by cult figures.

The events at Camber Sands in East Sussex will come to a close later this year after organisers decided it was time to "move on".

They have announced they will stage two events later this year before finally bowing out, which will see new wave band Television perform their Marquee Moon album in full. They will also see guitar band Loop reform briefly to perform and curate the bill.

The holiday camp festivals - staged at Pontin's - have been a popular draw as artists such as Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore, Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Portishead and actor/director Vincent Gallo have chosen line-ups over the years. ATP has also spread to the US and Australia.

The two-part finale will take place over consecutive weekends on November 22-24 and November 29 to December 1.

Artist Dinos Chapman will give one of the first performances of his electronic album Luftbobler during the first of the events, along with Television's rendition of their influential 1977 album.

The second weekend will see the Loop reunion along with performances by bands such as 23 Skidoo and The Pop Group.

Founder of the event Barry Hogan, who runs it with his wife Deborah, said: "When we started all this 14 years ago, we had no idea how a festival curated by a single artist and based in a family holiday camp would play out.

"It was a mad idea that somehow came to fruition helped by the fact that people were looking for something different from the overpriced conveyor belt corporate rock sponsor-fests that populate the British summer.

"The support from the artists and festival-goers alike has been incredible but it's time to move on and look towards the future."
