Spears song 'honour' for Charli XCX

Charli XCX has written a new song for Britney Spears' new album.

The 21-year-old singer - who wrote Icona Pop's Top Five hit I Love It, which she also features on - admitted she was "freaking out" before the writing session because she didn't want to mess things up.

Charli, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, told Digital Spy: "I've been doing some writing for the Britney record. I was freaking out. I didn't even want to go to the session, I was so excited. I was so worried I would f*** it up."

The singer, who released her debut solo album True Romance earlier this year, has sent one song for consideration for Britney's eighth album, the follow-up to 2011's Femme Fatale.

"Who knows how it will go," she continued. "We've written one song and it's a great track and if she likes it then amazing. It was just an honour to be asked."

Charli is among the collaborators for Britney's highly anticipated record including writer and producer Naughty Boy, William Orbit, Sia and Will.i.am.

The superstar has already teased fans with the prospect of a big announcement by unveiling a mysterious countdown on her official website, which reads 'ALL EYES ON ME' and has around 20 days remaining.
