Ellie Goulding holds onto top spot

Ellie Goulding's scorching reign at the top of the singles chart with Burn has continued for a third week.

The 26-year-old singer knocked Miley Cyrus's track, We Can't Stop, off the number one spot last month to score her first ever chart topper.

Ellie said that she did not expect her song to go to number one, and feels lucky that it has remained there for more than one week.

Speaking on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart Show, she said: "I feel very lucky, because it wasn't like I released it in a quiet week of mediocre songs. There are some big smashes, so I'm really happy."

Burn has seen off challenges from the likes of Avicii, Miley and Klangkarussell during its tenure at the top, and it also kept Lady Gaga's comeback single, Applause, from the number one position.

Avicii's Wake Me Up holds firm at number two, while Klangkarussell's Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) FT Will Heard is also static at number three. The Cedric Gervais remix of Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness is at four, and Miley's We Can't Stop is at five.

Former Westlife star Shane Filan scored his first solo hit with Everything To Me which went in at number 14.

Avenged Sevenfold scored their first number one UK album with Hail To The King. The Orange County rockers have ended Britain's Got Talent duo Richard And Adam's four-week-stand at number one with their debut album, The Impossible Dream, which is down three places to number four.

Avenged Sevenfold have fought off tough competition from Naughty Boy's debut album, Hotel Cabana, which is at number two.

The deluxe edition of Ellie's second album, Halcyon, retitled Halcyon Days, climbed 23 places to number three, while Bob Dylan's new rarities collection, Another Self Portrait: 1969-1971, debuted at number five.
