NewsOctober, 11 Macca: Nancy was my inspirationSir Paul McCartney has revealed the secret to his happy marriage - serenading his wife down the phone. The Beatles' legend, 71, told the Daily Mirror that he wouldn't let long distance get in the way between him and American Nancy Shevell . "In our early days she was in New York and I was in East Sussex I would take my youngest daughter to school, come back and have about three hours until she got up because of the time difference. "I got in the habit of writing a song and then ringing her up and saying, 'Do you fancy hearing it?' "It became a routine. I gave her the first performance of my new album, getting out my Dictaphone and making the demos at the same time. It was great fun," he said. Asked if she approved of his songs, he joked: "She wasn't going to say that she didn't like them, was she?" Macca, who is celebrating his second wedding anniversary with Nancy, wrote some of songs on his latest album, called New, in honour of his third wife, saying "s he was a great motivation and inspiration".
